Narnia II - Boat Charter

A great way to slow down is to take to the river, where you also see the surrounding countryside and villages from a totally different perspective. Our 30 foot narrow boat Narnia II is a fully equipped modern, yet traditional narrow boat. It is for private charter only by our guests; meaning we skipper the boat to wherever you want to go leaving you to relax or trying your hand at operating the lock gates.

The rate is £50 per hour or £350 for a whole day including fuel and refreshments. You can take a short lunch trip to the Fleet at Twining, a day trip to Upton upon Severn, half day trips to Tewkesbury (moor up for lunch outside the Royal Hop Pole Hotel), visit the many pubs in Pershore, or just saunter down the river. This is subject to the skipper’s availability and weather, and is payable in advance. If you think that’s an option we can at least pencil in the date.

Narnia II in Strensham Lock - Just 200 yards from The Old Rectory

Another idea is to book a cruise for 3 days or so mooring up in the evening and for us to pick you up by car bringing you back to your creature comforts at The Old Rectory.

The thing about the rivers around here is that you can travel all day and still only be a short car journey away from where you started. To give you an example it takes one day to travel to the town of Upton on Severn and back by River but just 10 minutes by Car, Worcester is another few hours on by river but just 20 mins from base by car. Further afield Stratford on Avon takes 3-4 days by boat and 40 mins by car.

Should should prefer to skipper your own narrowboat there are specialist boat hire comapnies nearby The Old Rectory, based on the Rivers Avon and Severn, that have boats to cater for all size of groups, but at the height of the season you are advised to book well in advance.

This hire boat company is  a small family business based at Upton on Severn which is just 10 minutes from The Old Rectory by car:http://www.starlinenarrowboats.co.uk/

This one is part of a larger group, but well run, based in Worcester and is 20 minutes drive from here: http://www.viking-afloat.com/

Here’s another site from the trust that owns The River Avon of which we are licensed members. It will give you an idea of the river map in relation to where we are at Strensham: http://www.avonnavigationtrust.org/index.php?id=50

And here’s a guide to the River Severn owned by the British Waterways. Incidentally the Rivers Avon and Severn meet at Tewkesbury (10 mins by car 2hrs by boat)http://www.waterscape.com/media/documents/23046.pdf
